As part of our continued efforts to preserve the community, the City of Dunsmuir recognizes the importance of the ballfield and grandstands at City Park. On October 27th, we were informed of a possible issue with one of the supporting columns for the roof of the grandstands. The city quickly responded and conducted an inspection with our Chief Building Official, which found that the structure needed to be closed for safety reasons. It has since been fenced off. On October 29th, a structural engineer also performed a preliminary inspection. Based on recommendations from the engineer, work will also be done soon to shore up the support columns so that conditions do not get any worse. As we know how important this is, the city will evaluate long-term options in partnership with the Parks and Recreation District as soon as we have more information.
